Manage Issues

Managing issues in a project is not defined as a separate KA in PMBOK. But issues could be anything ranging from a resource not available (which is not planned in HR mgmnt KA), to a power shutdown (which is not planned in Risk mgmt KA). For all issues maintain an issue log and keep the issue log as part of your weekly status reports & status mtgs, assign an ownership to each issue in the issue log, also assign an action item and follow it up in the next status call for its closure. This way u can control and manage issues. There's no project without issues but how you manage them makes you a better Proj Mgr.
