Some thoughts on Troubled Projects
When a project is deviating from its baseline such as missing milestones or exceeding project budgeted cost or not delivering its intended/planned functionality can be considered as troubled project.Having said this i think every project situation should be seen in context as situations depend on specific circumstances. For example a 24 month project that is two weeks late cannot be seen as troubled but a 6 month project that is two weeks late is in trouble.Project Audit is the only way for Project/Program Manager to know that a project is in trouble and therefore i think a simple and good practice is to define indicators and thresholds for each project seperately.Reasons for troubled project can be many and i will write a few lines in my next posting.
